Unit 1


Monday January 27th

Go over course syllabus, UbD and student information sheets. Discuss reasons for taking Psychology.

Tuesday January 28th

Lecture and PowerPoint on the value of Psychology as a course, Define psychology, question some common  assumptions and begin a graphic organizer on the early approaches to psychology.

Wednesday January 29th
 Complete graphic organizers, discuss graphic organizers.  

Thursday January 30th
Read an introductory story about the scientific basis for Psychology.  Also read the story of Genie on page 69 to complete the discussion on language development. 

 Students work on and complete the chapter 1 section 3 guided reading on careers in psychology.


Friday January 31st
 Try Free Association. 
Complete the Unit 1 PowerPoint.  Complete a current event of student choice from The Week Magazine  Turn in a paragraph of opinion.

 Discuss the major fields of psychology with the handout

Monday February 3rd
Prepare for the chapter 1 quiz.  Watch two segments from the Freakonomics documentary
Begin the Questions for chapter 2 to learn about different research methods that psychologists use.
  

Tuesday February 4th
Take the Chapter 1 quiz.
, Watch another segment from Freakonomics, on Sumo Wrestling.


Wednesday February 5th
BLIZZARD BAG DAY!!!!

Thursday February 6th

Go over the quizzes from Chapter 1.

 Discuss Chapter 2 research methods, based on the work done in the guided readings

Journal Entry: What does an average day in your life look like?  What parts of that day are things that you choose to do?  What is your INCENTIVE for doing each of these things.  Learn about correlations, and watch another portion from Freakonomics on cheating and crime rates.



Friday February 7th
Learn about "Psychological Research" vocabulary in Chapter 2.  Go Over the Chapter 2 guided reading.

    Review the vocabulary from Chapter 2.

Monday February 10th
Introduce new vocabulary terms related to problems in research and statistical evaluation.  Read the story of Clever Hans on page 46.
Watch a Youtube segment that highlights the research done by Stanley Milgram on obedience to authority.  This will help students to understand the differences between single-blind and double blind studies.
     

Tuesday February 11th
Let's go over the rest of our vocabulary and the Chapter 2 Section 2 guided reading

 Let's prepare for a Chapter 2 Quiz, I'd like to quiz on Thursday.

Wednesday February 12th
Research Project
Write a five question survey with your small group to learn something about Kingswood, or our surrounding  community.

Prepare for Tomorrow's Chapter 2 Quiz
